The container carrier CMA CGM Kerguelen has arrived at the Malta Freeport, thus establishing a new record in terms of being the largest ever vessel to dock in a Maltese harbour. The Kerguelen is a brand new vessel with a length of 400 metres and the ability to hold up to 18,000 containers.

The ship is operated by the Ocean Three Alliance, a joint venture between the three leading firms in the industry worldwide. Earlier this year, the Alliance started using the services of Malta Freeport. Executive Chairman Alex Montebello stated that the Malta Freeport is currently carrying out extension projects in order to be able to raise the amount of containers handled per year to over four million.

This project is a clear demonstration on striving to meet the demands of the Malta maritime industry in order to keep attracting investment towards our shores and remain a leading name within the industry.
