Call for IP Stakeholders to Participate in New Online National Trademark Registry Consultation Process

18 May 2016

A National Online Trademark Registry is currently being developed by the Maltese Industrial Property Registration Directorate. This is part of the Government of Malta’s plan to facilitate access to Government documentation online, and it is estimated that this project should be implemented by the end of 2016.

As a result, it will be easier and quicker for intellectual property stakeholders to obtain trademark information, such as performing checks for previously registered similar trademarks, registered proprietors, and the status with respect to applications, renewals and expiry.

The Industrial Property Registration Directorate has also invited stakeholders’ input on the matter, with the process being aimed at improving IP stakeholders’ online search experience. Stakeholders were encouraged to offer feedback on any functions/facilities which should be included in the National Online Trademark Registry, in order to ensure that users will be able to experience a seamless search.

The two day consultation process came to a close on the 13th of May.
