Gianluca joined the firm as a tax associate in September 2020. His areas of expertise are tax & legal with a particular interest in direct and indirect tax optimisation and procedural matters. Over the years Gianluca amassed experience both in the private sector assisting clients and also in the public sector working within the Office of the Commissioner for Revenue.
Education and Court Admissions
Gianluca Barbieri graduated as a Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta in 2016 after submitting his thesis entitled “A New Dimension to VAT Convergence: Inter-State Cooperation for Standardisation of Legal Regimes”.
Subsequently, he specialised at the Leiden University in the Netherlands whereby he successfully read for a Master’s Degree in Advanced Studies in European Tax Law in 2017 following the submission of his research paper entitled: “Exchange of Information in Tax Matters and the Link with Anti-Money Laundering and Penal Law.”
Concurrently, Gianluca was called to bar in 2017 as an Advocate where thereafter he advised and assisted individuals and body corporates in their representations before the relevant authorities.
